The 177th UCI Congress started with a good note when Pat McQuaid announced that the UCI and the French National Cycling Federation had reached an amicable settlement in the long dispute that had taken about three years to resolve. The complex issue on the ASO's Grand Tours and the complicated involvement of The French Cycling Federation as regards to the Tour de France that is not in terms with some of the UCI rules and also the questions on the Pro Tour programmes was resolved for the better future of cycling not only in Europe but all over the world. With that the suspension of the French Cycling Federation was lifted and the cycling fraternity are united once again to advance the cycling sport to greater heights.

Datuk Naim Mohamad played an important part in the Congress last year when he addressed the Congress to be strong and united in facing the problems and that to give ultimatum to French Cycling Federation to resolve the problem by this year's Congress or not face the consequences of being banned from the UCI.

With unity in the governing body of the cycling highest organisation, cycling can expect to have a good future and play an important role in the world of sport. Congratulations to the UCI.
