On the 11th of September, 2008 at about 3-00 pm a small but very meaningful event took place at the Hall of Fame of Olympic Council of Malaysia (or the OCM Museum). There was gathered all the Malaysian Olympians in the recent Beijing Olympics. They were to receive a small contribution from MANULIFE Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad for achieving outstanding results in their events.
Present at the function were the top Brass from OCM headed by Tan Sri Tengku Imran himself with the Deputy President Dato Dr Jegathesan, Vice President Low Beng Chew, Chef de Mission Dato Ho Koh Chye, Ramly, Moira, Joe Marcos, Fong and the rest of the OCM backbone.
Mr Peter D Robertson, the President and Chief Executive Officer, Manulife Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad was also present to witness this important occassion. In his few words to the athletes, what touched me most was how in a few words he had enriched and at the same time lifted the athletes moral even though they did not bring back Gold for Malaysia. He said, as the CEO of a company, there are about one to every two hundred in this world. But as an olympian, there is one to about half a million people in this world. It had inspired me and I am sure it had given the right booster for their challenges ahead in the coming months and years.
To OCM and Manulife, congratulations and thank you very much. To Yang Amat Mulia Tan Sri Tengku Imran - carry on the good work. To Mr. Peter D Robertson - please continue to support OCM and keep on inspiring the Malaysians.
Even though there is no tea break after the ceremony (Ramadhan) we don't feel hungry. We have been fed with an occassion that will inspire us on and on and on.
Congratulations to all the beneficiaries of the contribution.
